Reminder

Filed under: Uncategorized — jbcox @ 5:55 pm

Just a friendly reminder that the last day to drop classes is April 6. If you are concerned about your grade or would like to know more about where you stand before then, please talk to me after class or during office hours.

Have a great weekend!

Social Media Homework

Filed under: Uncategorized — jbcox @ 12:30 pm

For Tuesday, collaborate with a partner to review a lesser-known social media site (not Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia, or MySpace). You will give a short presentation to the class explaining:

  • The purpose of the site
  • Who are its targeted users?
  • How does it work?
  • Is it effective?
  • What are the pros and cons of using it?
  • How could organizations in your field use it?
  • Demonstrate its usability (make sure you sign up for the site/service)

Here are some possibilities:

Social bookmarking:

Social news:

Social networking:

Social Photo/Video Sharing:

  • Flickr (Caleigh, Erin, Allie)
  • Snapfish (Ashley, Chloe & Jill)
  • Instagram (Jason, Chris, Nick)

First post rubric

Filed under: Uncategorized — jbcox @ 4:41 pm

I just wanted to show you all the grading sheet I will be using for your first post tomorrow. It is very much like the rubric for the entire blog that I posted before break but a bit more specific to ONE post rather than the whole. Please make sure you have done everything asked of you before coming to class.

See you tomorrow!

First post reminder

Filed under: Uncategorized — jbcox @ 8:15 pm

Hi all! Hope you had a fun and restful spring break!

I just wanted to remind you that your first blog post is due in class Tuesday (worth 50 of your 250 points on the project).

Your first post should be one appropriate for your field (journalistic, promotional, etc.). You can post an introductory message, but that will not count as your first post for Tuesday. Just wanted to be clear on that point.

See you Tuesday!

Quiz glitch

Filed under: Uncategorized — jbcox @ 6:32 pm

Hi all! I just wanted to let you know that there was a little glitch recording the quizzes. It will be fixed tomorrow, but I just didn’t want anyone worrying if they looked at MyClasses and saw a different grade than expected.

Project 2 rubric

Filed under: Uncategorized — jbcox @ 6:17 pm

We will continue to talk about a few items regarding project 2 in class tomorrow, including going over the rubric I will use to grade you.

As promised, we will also discuss some methods for getting followers on your blog. (Remember, 25 or more followers will get you 10 extra points!)

If you want people to follow your blog, don’t forget to add a widget that allows them to do so. You can find those by going to the appearance tab and selecting “widgets.” Under that heading, you can choose to display a button that allows people to follow the blog. (You can also add a “Like Us On Facebook” widget, but those don’t count as followers for this project.)

I’ll walk you through this process in class tomorrow, as well.
